Who will get the Golden Boot at Euro 2024?

Milan Baros, David Villa, Fernando Torres, Antoine Griezmann and Cristiano Ronaldo. They are the last 5 Golden Boot winners at European Championships, scoring 5, 4, 3, 6 and 5 goals respectively (yes Fernando Torres really won a Golden Boot with 3 goals...)

Barring perhaps Milan Baros, all of the remaining 4 players could have been quite confidently predicted as top goal scorers ahead of the tournament. Will the same be true in Germany this summer?

Read on to find out as we trawl through the football betting odds to try and work out who will walk away in July with the coveted Golden Boot award for Euro 2024.

Romelu Lukaku - showing his best stretching moves

Romelu Lukaku: 20/1

Remember when Lukaku burst onto the scene at West Brom? Or how good he was for Roberto Martinez at Everton? What a talent he was, what an absolute sensation. Surely he would go on to amazing things and be competing for Ballon D'Or's and Golden Boots all across Europe...

Well no actually. Rom has had a more than acceptable career but he has never consistently lived up to the goal scoring hype. Over the past three seasons he has managed 13, 10 and 8 league goals respectively for Roma, Inter Milan and Chelsea and in his last international tournament appeared to be auditioning for one of those Danny Baker Own Goals and Gaffs videos from the nineties.

If you're hoping to win a Golden Boot bet, we think you'd be better off looking elsewhere...

Lukaku was lucky Danny Baker wasn't about to cover his World Cup 2022 misses.

Olivier Giroud: 18/1

Yes we understand that France are likely to go quite far in this summer's competition and that Olivier Giroud will be looking to go out on a high but seeing the former Arsenal forward as fifth favourite for the Golden Boot does seem somewhat fanciful.

Whilst Giroud is a top player he has always been a scorer of great goals rather than a great scorer of goals so if you're thinking of backing him for the Golden Boot, think again...

Jude Bellingham in the English national team

Jude Bellingham: 16/1

Coming in at fourth favourite in the betting is England and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham who, at the time of writing, has bagged 23 goals in 41 games for his club side. Those stats are most likely the reason for Bellingham's inclusion in the Top 5 Golden Boot betting odds but we think he should be an even longer shot than Giroud.

For Los Blancos Bellingham plays a much more advanced role and is the focal point of attacks, that won't be the case for England this summer. Whilst we wouldn't be surprised to see Bellingham end the tournament with 2 or 3 goals, we'd be absolutely shocked to see him end it as top scorer.

Bellingham has been in fine goalscoring form for Real Madrid this season but he plays a very different role for England.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 12/1

The Arctic Monkeys album The Car peaked at Number 6 in the Billboard 200 and Number 2 in the UK Top 40. Whilst personally we were fans of the melodic sea change and 1950s spaghetti-western style vibe that the album brought it was absolutely not an album worthy of those sales.

The Car did so well in the charts because it was trading on the past glories of an amazing rock band, much in the same way that Cristiano Ronaldo is 12/1 to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2024 despite playing his domestic football in a pub league.

Kylian Mbappe

Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe: 5/1

The two favourites to win the Golden Booth are tied in at the same odds and it's easy to see why. Both play for teams that are predicted to go deep in the competition and both are habitual goal scorers for their nations.

The only argument against Kane would be that in recent years he has played a more withdrawn role for England, dropping deep and turning provider, whereas Mbappe has one job and one job only for Les Blues - score.

Like him or loathe him, Mbappe is a goal scoring machine for France.

That much was clear in the 2022 World Cup when Deschamps seemingly absolved the PSG speedster of any defensive responsibilities. That move may have destabilised his team and left Argentina with acres of space to exploit in the final, but it was also a move that saw Mbappe claim the Golden Boot.

If we were to bet on anyone to win the Euro 2024 Golden Boot, it would have to be Kylian Mbappe.
