Andre-Pierre Gignac - the greatest foreign player in Liga MX
Clubs in the Mexican league Liga MX have tried time and again to sign foreign football stars, hoping to make an impact, and of course improve their squad. His first hat-trick
Just 3 weeks after his debut in Ligue 1, Andre Pierre Gignac celebrated his first goal with a thirty-meter cannonball for his club Lorient. It was on August 26, 2006, when the then twenty-year-old striker scored a hat-trick, and he did it in just 27 minutes against Nancy.
Top scorer of the Ligue 1
In the season of 2008-09 when playing for Toulouse, Gignac finished as the top scorer with 24 goals in 38 matches. In this season that he scored 6 doubles and 2/3 of his total goals home at the Toulouse Stadium.
First double against PSG
After his successful years in Lorient and Toulouse, Gignac made a move to a bigger club as he joined Marseille. Gignac had a couple of tough years in the beginning but when Elie Baup became part of the coaching bench it became a turning point in his career. With 13 goals in the season of 2012-2013, he was the top scorer of Marseille and he scored twice in the prestigious "Le Classique" against Paris Saint-Germain at the home arena Stade Vélodrome (with a 2-2 final result).
100 goals in Ligue 1
Before leaving Olympique de Marseille, and before joining Mexican Tigres UANL, Gignac hit his 100-goal league mark at the end of the 2014-15 season. His 100th goal in the league was scored with an opportunistic goal on matchday 35 of the season.
Gignac moves to Mexico
After the season 2014-2015 Andre Pierre Gignac made a very surprising move to Mexico and is today the main scorer for the Liga MX team Tigres UANL. In his very first season in Mexico he became the leagues top scorer with 24 goals. He was also the leagues top scorer in 2018/2019 with 21 goals. As of today (September 2020) he has scored more than 80 goals in Liga MX and more than 100 goals in total for Tigres UANL including cups, making him most likely the biggest and most influential foreign player ever in Mexico. According to a statistical study, Gignac was found make 3.77 scoring attempts per game, with a scoring accuracy of 37%.
